The cut-off date is the most important setting in WipeAway. Everything before it is deleted; everything after it is untouched. Choosing the right one requires a few minutes of thought before you start.
Start with your use case
- Annual clean-up: Start of the current calendar or financial year (e.g. 1 January or 1 April)
- Academic year reset: Last day of the previous summer term
- Project close-down: The formal project end date
- Campaign clean-up: The campaign end date or go-live date
- Post-migration clean-up: The migration date
- Data minimisation (12-month rolling): 12 months ago from today
Check for edge cases
Before confirming your cut-off date, check for events near that date that you might want to preserve:
- Are there any future bookings made well in advance that might fall unexpectedly close to your cut-off date?
- Are there any annual recurring events (like a Christmas party or year-end review) that occur near the date?
- Are there any events in the "past" date range that you might still want to reference?
Use the event count to verify
WipeAway always shows you the event count before deleting. If the count seems much higher or lower than expected, go back and review your cut-off date before confirming. The count is your final verification that the settings are correct.
