Google Workspace domain migrations — moving users, data, and settings from one domain to another — are complex IT projects that touch almost every service in the Workspace suite. Google Calendar is one of the most challenging aspects, because calendar data is highly structured, deeply integrated with other systems, and actively used by every member of the organisation.
Calendar clean-up typically occurs at two points in a domain migration project:
Reducing the volume of calendar data before migration makes the migration itself faster and reduces the risk of issues. Clearing historical events from shared calendars before migrating them means less data to transfer, fewer potential conflicts, and a cleaner state in the new domain.
Even with pre-migration clean-up, the migration process itself can leave residual issues — duplicate events from synchronisation overlaps, historical entries that were migrated unnecessarily, or events associated with accounts that no longer exist in the new domain. Post-migration clean-up addresses these.
Identify shared calendars, resource calendars, and team calendars that contain significant historical data. For each:
Run this 2–4 weeks before the migration date to give time for any issues to be identified before the migration window.
After migration is complete, sign into WipeAway using credentials in the new domain (the migrated accounts) and address any residual data issues — duplicate events from the migration overlap period, unwanted historical entries that migrated despite pre-migration clean-up, or events associated with decommissioned accounts.
Coordinate with your migration partner. If you are working with a Google partner or migration tool vendor (Migrate for Workspace, Cloudfuze, etc.), confirm the calendar clean-up steps with them so the WipeAway process is integrated into the overall migration plan.
During the migration transition period, access to calendars may be split between the old and new domains. Confirm with your migration team which domain's credentials should be used for WipeAway at each stage of the project.
