Yes, always. When you delete events from a shared calendar, they disappear for everyone with access. Give the team advance notice.
When events are removed from a shared Google Calendar, every person who had access to that calendar loses visibility of those events — not just the person who ran the deletion. This is expected behaviour, but it can be disruptive if team members have not been warned.
Google Calendar events can contain a significant amount of structured information — links, notes, attachments — that team members may want to preserve before the events are cleared.
A simple email is enough. Send a brief team note saying "We are clearing [Calendar Name] of all events before [Date] on [Clean-up Date]. If there is anything you want to save from past events, please do so before then."
